Welcome to San Antonio: Host City for NCAA Championships!
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio is set to showcase its sporting prowess as the host city for the 2026 NCAA D1 women’s volleyball championship and the 2027 NCAA D1 men’s college basketball regional, as announced by the NCAA on Wednesday.
Following a rigorous selection process that saw 1,200 bids from various entities across the nation, San Antonio emerged victorious, marking the third time the city will host the prestigious volleyball championship and the 12th time for the men’s basketball regional.
The Alamodome will play host to the volleyball championship, while the Frost Bank Center will be the venue for the basketball regional.
Mayor Ron Nirenberg expressed his delight at the opportunity to welcome these prestigious events to the city, highlighting San Antonio as a premier destination for sports. He anticipated an unforgettable experience for the NCAA, coaches, players, and fans during March Madness.
San Antonio Sports President & CEO Jenny Carnes and UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos also shared their excitement for the upcoming championships. Carnes emphasized the city’s appeal to college fans and its ideal setup for hosting such events, praising the renowned volleyball program at the University of Texas at Austin.
Campos reflected on the city’s longstanding tradition of hosting NCAA championships, emphasizing the community’s enthusiasm and the special atmosphere created during these events.
