Napheesa Collier ties WNBA playoff record with 42 points; Lynx sweep Mercury

Napheesa Collier put on a show to remember as she scored 42 points to tie a WNBA playoff record in a spectacular performance, leading the Minnesota Lynx to a thrilling 101-88 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday night.

Collier’s 42-point outburst not only tied the likes of Breanna Stewart and Angel McCoughtry for the playoff record but also made history as she became the first player in WNBA history to score 38-plus points in back-to-back playoff games. In fact, over a two-game stretch in the playoffs, Collier scored a staggering 80 points, setting a new WNBA record.

With this incredible performance, Collier has firmly established herself as a force to be reckoned with in the league. Her scoring prowess will undoubtedly be a key factor for the Lynx as they prepare to face off against Connecticut in the upcoming semifinals.

Aside from Collier’s heroics, Kayla McBride, Bridget Carleton, and Alanna Smith also contributed significantly to the Lynx’s victory, showcasing the team’s depth and versatility.

On the other side, Brittney Griner led the charge for Phoenix with 24 points, while WNBA legend Diana Taurasi put up 10 points before exiting the game to a standing ovation. Taurasi’s future in the league remains uncertain, but her impact on the game and the sport as a whole is undeniable.

The game was filled with intense moments and physical play, culminating in a dominant display by the Lynx in the fourth quarter to secure the win and advance in the playoffs.

As the WNBA playoffs continue to unfold, fans can expect more electrifying performances and high-stakes matchups that will define the season. Stay tuned for more action-packed basketball as the teams battle for supremacy on the court.
