Mexican prosecutors mull treason charges against Zambada, jailed in US

MEXICO CITY – The recent arrest of Mexico’s most-wanted drug lord by the United States has sparked a trail of intrigue and controversy. Mexican prosecutors, along with the president, are now considering treason charges against those responsible for handing him over.

Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, the leader of the Sinaloa cartel, made a surprising appearance on a flight that landed near El Paso, Texas in July. This flight was arranged by another drug lord who decided to surrender to U.S. authorities.

U.S. officials claim that the son of imprisoned cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, abducted Zambada before flying to the United States to turn himself in. The response from Mexican authorities to the capture of Zambada has been unusual, as instead of appreciation, they are considering treason charges against those involved in the plot.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s reluctance to address Mexico’s drug cartels has been well-documented. The recent events surrounding Zambada’s capture have only added to the tension between Mexico and the United States.

The unfolding drama involving drug lords, politicians, and international relations has captured the attention of the public and raised questions about the future of the war on drugs in Mexico.

Stay tuned as this story continues to develop and reshape the landscape of drug trafficking in Latin America.
