SAN ANTONIO, Texas – An entire building at an apartment complex in the Medical Center area of San Antonio is now uninhabitable following a devastating fire that occurred on a Thursday afternoon. The Fountainhead apartments were engulfed in flames after the fire broke out after 1 p.m.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation as of Friday morning, with fire investigators focusing on the balcony of a third-floor unit at the multi-building complex as the starting point of the blaze.
Flames quickly spread through the roof, leading to smoke inhalation in neighboring apartments and water damage as firefighters battled to contain the fire.
Neighbor Rebecca Carder described the scene, mentioning that the flames reached the roof, creating a dire situation for the residents. Thankfully, no major injuries were reported, although one person suffered minor smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene.
Many residents were at work when the fire erupted, ensuring their safety. However, six out of the twelve apartments in the affected building sustained varying degrees of damage, leading to the cut-off of electricity to the entire building.
Residents have been forced to seek alternate accommodation while repairs are underway, with hopes of a quick resolution to the situation. Management of the complex has not provided a timeline for the repairs, leaving residents in uncertainty.
