Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer, ex-Dem leader, recovers from mild stroke

WASHINGTON – Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer, the former House Democratic leader, is on the road to recovery after experiencing a mild stroke on Sunday, his office confirmed.

Hoyer, who is 85 years old, suffered a “mild ischemic stroke” on Sunday night and promptly sought medical assistance. Fortunately, he responded well to treatment and did not experience any lingering symptoms from the stroke. Hoyer is expected to resume his regular schedule next week, much to the relief of his colleagues and supporters.

Having served Maryland’s congressional district since 1981, Hoyer held a prominent position in House Democratic leadership for over a decade before stepping down in 2022 to make way for a new wave of leaders. His dedication to public service and commitment to his constituents have made him a respected figure in the political arena.

As we wish Rep. Steny Hoyer a speedy recovery, we reflect on his years of service and wish him continued health and well-being.
