Mark Robinson treated for burns after appearance, campaign reports

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. – The campaign trail for North Carolina Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson took an unexpected turn on Friday night when he suffered burns while attending a truck show in Mount Airy, where he was actively campaigning for governor.

Robinson, who was making an appearance at the Mayberry Truck Show, was treated for second-degree burns at Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy, according to campaign spokesperson Mike Lonergan.

Lonergan reassured the public that Robinson is in good spirits and eager to resume his campaign activities as planned on Saturday morning. He did not provide details on how or where the burns occurred, but Robinson had been on a busy campaign schedule with several stops lined up for the weekend.

Robinson, who assumed office as lieutenant governor in 2021, is running for governor against Democratic nominee Josh Stein, the current attorney general. With current Gov. Roy Cooper ineligible for re-election due to term limits, the race is heating up in North Carolina.

Despite recent controversies and staff turnovers following allegations of inflammatory online posts, Robinson remains steadfast in his denial of writing the messages and has initiated a legal investigation. The challenges have not deterred his commitment to the campaign.

Mount Airy, a town with a rich history and known as the childhood home of TV legend Andy Griffith, sets the backdrop for this campaign episode. The community’s ties to “The Andy Griffith Show” have not gone unnoticed, adding a touch of nostalgia to the political landscape.
