Welcome to the Next Generation: Arch Manning to Start for No. 1 Texas
AUSTIN, Texas – Exciting news for Texas Longhorns fans – No. 1 Texas will be starting Arch Manning at quarterback this Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has made the decision to give Manning the start as regular starter Quinn Ewers continues to recover from a strained muscle in his abdomen. This will be Manning’s first career start after an impressive performance coming off the bench last week against UTSA, where he led Texas to a 56-7 victory with four touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown.
Manning, a second-year freshman, comes from a legendary football family. He is the son of Cooper Manning, grandson of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning, and nephew of Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning. With such a rich football lineage, expectations are high for Manning as he takes the reins of the Longhorns offense.
Ewers, who has had his own share of injury setbacks over the past two seasons, will be cheering on his teammate from the sidelines as he continues his recovery. The Longhorns, ranked No. 1 for the first time since 2008, are looking to continue their winning streak as they prepare to face Mississippi State in their first SEC schedule game later this month.
