Man found guilty in killing 5-year-old boy faces sentencing

SAN ANTONIO – The justice system is gearing up for a significant sentencing on Wednesday afternoon as a man convicted of beating his girlfriend’s son to death faces his fate.

Earlier this year, Daniel Garcia was found guilty of injury to a child for causing the tragic death of 5-year-old Domenic Aguilar-Acevedo. The horrifying incident is said to have occurred in a San Antonio hotel in 2021, after which Garcia and the boy’s mother, Nickolle Aguilar, allegedly disposed of Domenic’s body in a ravine along a hillside in Colorado.

Domenic Aguilar-Acevedo was killed in July 2021, authorities have said.

Last week, Aguilar received a 15-year prison sentence for her role in the heinous crime. In exchange for testifying against Garcia during his trial, she was offered a plea deal.

Aguilar is scheduled to appear in court once again on Wednesday to provide testimony for Garcia’s sentencing hearing. The accused faces a potential sentence ranging from five years to life in prison.

The final decision on Garcia’s fate will rest in the hands of 226th District Court Judge Velia Meza. The highly anticipated hearing is set to commence at 1:30 p.m. and will be livestreamed for public viewing.
