MELBOURNE – In a bizarre incident at Melbourne Airport, a passenger was arrested after he exited a stationary airliner through an emergency exit, walked along a wing, and then climbed down a jet engine to the tarmac on Thursday, officials confirmed.
The incident occurred when Jetstar Flight JQ507, arriving from Sydney, was parked at a terminal gate and the man left the plane via the right-side exit, triggering the deployment of an emergency slide, according to a Jetstar statement.
Instead of using the slide, the man opted to walk along the wing and climbed down one of the plane’s engines, leaving passengers in shock and panic as he displayed erratic behavior, described by witness Audrey Varghese as “quite strange.”
Australian Federal Police intervened and arrested the man for aggressive behavior and breaching safety protocols, eventually taking him to a hospital for assessment. Charges are likely to be filed as the investigation continues.
Melbourne Airport praised the swift response of their staff, ensuring the safety of other passengers and personnel amidst the chaos caused by the incident.
