Patrick Mahomes Donates $5 Million to Texas Tech for Stadium Renovation
Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, made a generous donation of $5 million to his alma mater, Texas Tech, on Thursday. The donation will go towards funding a $242 million renovation of the south end zone of Jones AT&T Stadium and the Dustin R. Womble Football Center.
The school, located in Lubbock, Texas, announced that they will be naming various areas of the football center after Mahomes in recognition of his contributions. Mahomes played for the Red Raiders from 2014-2016 before declaring for the NFL draft and being selected by the Chiefs in 2017.
Since joining the NFL, Mahomes has been a standout performer, leading the Chiefs to three Super Bowl titles and earning numerous accolades, including two league MVP awards. His impact on Texas Tech has been significant, with the school entering a partnership with Adidas and releasing co-branded apparel featuring Mahomes’ signature “gladiator” logo.
In addition to his financial contribution, Mahomes has been actively involved in supporting Texas Tech, attending games and events whenever his schedule allows. His latest donation brings the school’s fundraising total for the stadium and football center projects to $115 million.
Reflecting on Mahomes’ generosity, Red Raiders athletic director Kirby Hocutt praised the quarterback for his continued support and global impact on the university. Mahomes’ dedication to Texas Tech exemplifies his commitment to giving back to his community and alma mater.
