LULAC condemns Paxton’s election fraud raids as “intimidation”

In the midst of the upcoming 2024 elections, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is demanding a federal investigation into the recent raids conducted by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. The raids were part of an “ongoing election integrity investigation” that has stirred controversy and accusations of voter suppression.

Gabriel Rosales, Texas LULAC’s state director, criticized Paxton’s actions, claiming that the raids were carried out to intimidate and suppress the Latino vote in favor of political allies. The raids targeted individuals involved in the campaign of Cecilia Castellano, a Democrat running for a state House seat that the Republicans view as a potential flip opportunity in November.

Rosales expressed outrage over the lack of transparency surrounding the accusations that led to the raids and denounced the misuse of taxpayers’ money in what he called a fear-inducing tactic by the state’s highest-ranking law enforcement officer.

Paxton defended the raids as part of an investigation into alleged election fraud and vote harvesting from the previous 2022 elections. However, the specifics of the raids, including targets and reasons for search warrants, remain unclear, leading to heightened tensions and apprehension within the affected communities.

As LULAC prepares to file a formal complaint with the U.S. Justice Department, the controversy surrounding Paxton’s actions underscores the importance of accountability and transparency in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.

In the midst of this political turmoil, The Texas Tribune is gearing up for its annual festival featuring keynotes from notable figures such as Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin. The festival promises a diverse lineup of speakers and engaging events that highlight the significance of every vote in shaping the future of American politics. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to join the conversation and be a part of this influential event. Get your tickets today and secure your spot at The Texas Tribune Festival!
