SAN ANTONIO – Exciting news for residents and visitors of San Antonio! The Lower Broadway road reconstruction project is nearing its final stages, with the last milestone before completion just around the corner.
Scheduled to begin as early as September 30, the final pavements of the Lower Broadway project will mark a significant step towards the project’s conclusion. This project, which commenced in January, has been a crucial infrastructure development for the city.
The paving process will start at Broadway and Roy Smith Street, progressing in three- to four-block increments as it moves south towards Houston Street. Each section of Broadway will be temporarily closed as the paving takes place, with each increment estimated to take at least three days to complete.
Drivers navigating the area will be redirected to North Alamo Street and Avenue B during the paving phase, with the goal of completing the paving by mid-October.
Public Works Director Razi Hosseini expressed his anticipation for the project’s nearing completion, emphasizing the improved infrastructure and pedestrian experience that the new roadway will offer.
Following the paving phase, additional work such as road stripping, sidewalk installations, landscaping, and traffic signal upgrades will be undertaken to enhance the overall look and functionality of the area.
Throughout the construction period, all businesses along Lower Broadway will remain open to serve residents and visitors, ensuring minimal disruption to daily activities.
The completion of this project will introduce several enhancements, including wider sidewalks, new trees, enhanced pedestrian lighting, improved traffic signals, and upgraded crosswalks, transforming Lower Broadway into a modern and pedestrian-friendly environment.
