AUSTIN, Texas – No. 4 Texas has lost a second running back to a season-ending injury, leaving Jaydon Blue as the lone scholarship player with significant experience at the position as the Longhorns gear up for the Southeastern Conference.

Freshman Christian Clark tore his Achilles tendon in practice and will need surgery, while 2023 part-time starter CJ Baxter injured his knee last week, increasing the pressure on Blue, the potential starter who backed up Jonathon Brooks and Baxter in all 14 games last season. Blue showcased his skills with 398 rushing yards, three touchdowns, 135 receiving yards, and a score as a sophomore.

With only two other scholarship backs available, including sophomore Quintrevion Wisner and freshman Jerrick Gibson, the Longhorns are relying on Blue to lead the running game. Quarterback Quinn Ewers emphasized the need for positivity amid the challenges, highlighting the team’s depth and adaptability.

Ewers, known for his scrambling abilities, is prepared to step up and support the team in any way necessary. He understands the importance of teamwork and is ready to contribute his skills to secure victories.
