Welcome to the Wild Weather Game Delay in Morgantown, W.Va.
When No. 8 Penn State and West Virginia faced off in their season opener, they never expected to be delayed for more than two hours due to a lightning storm. The game took a thrilling turn at halftime when storm clouds rolled in over the stadium, causing chaos and excitement among the fans.
As the teams headed to the locker room, both bands took the field to perform their halftime shows. However, before they could finish, an announcement rang out, warning fans to seek shelter as lightning was detected in the area. High wind gusts followed, spreading loose garbage through the air as fans hurried towards the exits, seeking cover from the impending storm.
Once the storm passed, players returned to a less-than-half-filled stadium to resume the second half. Despite the delay, Drew Alllar’s three touchdown passes had already given Penn State a 20-6 lead by halftime.
It was a game to remember, not just for the intense plays on the field, but for the unexpected weather delay that kept fans on edge. Mother Nature had other plans for this matchup, but nothing could dampen the spirit of the teams and their dedicated supporters.
