SAN ANTONIO – The highly anticipated first debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump is set to take place on Tuesday, Sept. 10. This debate marks a significant moment in the 2024 election season, as it will be the first time the two nominees will face off.
Coverage of the event will begin at 7 p.m. with a pre-debate program on KSAT, followed by the ABC News Presidential Debate at 8 p.m. Viewers can tune in to watch the coverage and the debate on KSAT 12, on all KSAT digital platforms, or in the video player above.
Following President Joe Biden’s decision to end his reelection bid after the first debate, there was initially some doubt as to whether Trump and Harris would meet in a debate. However, arrangements were finalized, and the debate is set to proceed as scheduled.
Leading up to the debate, there has been some controversy surrounding the muting of microphones during the event. Both campaigns have had differing opinions on this issue, but ultimately agreed to adhere to the rules set forth by ABC for the debate.
The debate will be moderated by ABC anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis, and will follow a structured format with specific rules and guidelines for the candidates to follow. Each candidate will be given equal time to respond to questions and provide rebuttals.
While the candidates have not yet confirmed additional debates beyond this one, CBS News is slated to host a vice presidential debate on Oct. 1 between the respective running mates of Trump and Walz, Ohio Sen. JD Vance.
