Patton Kizzire is redefining the mental game of golf in a unique and intriguing way. Before teeing off at the FedEx Cup Fall series opener, Kizzire embraced a tree as part of his mental exercise. This unusual approach paid off as he took the lead into the weekend at Silverado.
Under the guidance of a new mental coach, Kizzire displayed a more relaxed and composed performance, shooting a stellar 7-under 65. This score put him one stroke ahead of David Lipsky in the Procore Championship.
Sharing a light-hearted moment about his new mental routine, Kizzire mentioned activities like walking barefoot and hugging trees as part of his preparation.
Reflecting on this shift in approach, Kizzire expressed, “It’s been really cool to just get organized and try to be more playful out there and be unflappable.”
With seven birdies, including six on the back nine, Kizzire is aiming for his first PGA Tour victory since 2018.
Despite facing challenges off the tee and into the green, Kizzire’s strong putting and mental fortitude have been key to his success. He emphasized, “My patience in the mental game and my putting have really kept me in it and allowed me to play really well.”
Kizzire currently holds a 13-under 131 total on the picturesque course nestled in the heart of Napa Valley wine country.
Lipsky, the first-round leader, trails Kizzire by one stroke with a 67 that included impressive eagles and birdies, showcasing a competitive field at the Procore Championship.
As the tournament progresses, golf enthusiasts are witnessing a display of skill and mental resilience, making the Procore Championship a must-watch event!
