Efforts to engage Texans in voting ahead of Election Day on Nov. 5 have sparked investigations into voter registration, ballot casting, and voter roll maintenance in the state.

Issues around voter registration were raised by Fox News, leading to investigations by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office. Allegations of illegal vote harvesting prompted searches by officials, stirring controversy in Latino communities.

Governor Greg Abbott announced the removal of 1 million people from voter rolls since 2021, a move criticized for potentially undermining election trust.

While voting fraud is rare, recent legislative changes impose new requirements on assisting voters and voting by mail, aiming to prevent potential fraud. However, critics argue these regulations restrict voter access.

The Texas Secretary of State and election officials work to ensure fair voting processes. Transparency, adherence to rules, and assistance for voters are key elements of a secure election system.

For more information and resources on assisting voters, visit the Texas Secretary of State’s office, Disability Rights Texas, or the Tribune’s voter guides.
