KENDALL COUNTY, Texas – The Kendall County Women’s Shelter, a beacon for women and child survivors of domestic abuse, is joining forces with TRL Productions’ Bexarfest to shine a spotlight on their vital mission and empower students for the future.
Excited to be part of this initiative for the first time, the shelter is introducing its specialized program for middle and high school students, aimed at educating them about domestic abuse and inviting them to engage with the shelter’s services.
Brooke House, Chief Program Officer, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “I think our expectation is just new partnerships, additional exposure within the community, and a way to expand our mission with a cool population. I think students are really innovative and far more creative, so it is a natural fit, and I can’t wait to see how it goes.”
The involvement of organizations like the Kendall County Women’s Shelter is crucial in providing support to vulnerable populations and breaking the cycle of abuse.
Jenny Forks, a survivor and board member of the organization, emphasized the strength and resilience needed to seek help and break free from abusive situations, highlighting the transformative impact of organizations like the shelter in the community.
Forks also shared her experience in working with the shelter’s “Young Hearts” program, which focuses on educating youth about domestic violence prevention and intervention, underscoring the importance of empowering the younger generation to speak up and seek assistance.
As a survivor turned advocate, Forks’ journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of support and healing, inspiring others to break the cycle of abuse and make a positive impact in their communities.
