Recent UTSA Poll Shows Kamala Harris Leading in Bexar County
According to a recent UTSA poll, Vice President Kamala Harris is leading former President Donald Trump among Bexar County registered voters, with approximately 10% of respondents still undecided.
The poll results show that 53% of voters plan to support Harris, while 35% plan to vote for Trump in the upcoming presidential election. These numbers are consistent with the 2020 election, where Biden won Bexar County with 58% of the votes to Trump’s 40%.
Additionally, 10% of respondents indicated that they have not yet made a decision on which candidate to support.
The UTSA Center for Public Opinion Research (CPOR) conducted an online survey of 692 registered voters in Bexar County immediately following the second presidential debate, from Sept. 11-16. The survey was available in both English and Spanish, and respondents used verified email addresses.
Evolution of Bexar County Voters since Biden’s Withdrawal
The September poll revealed that Harris has expanded her lead over Trump by double digits since a similar poll conducted by UTSA in June, prior to Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
In the June poll, President Joe Biden had 40% support in Bexar County compared to Trump’s 35%. At that time, 15% of voters were undecided, whereas in September, only 10% remained undecided.
These results indicate that Harris has increased the Democratic lead by approximately 14%.
U.S. Senate Race
In the U.S. Senate race, the September poll showed that Democratic Congressman Colin Allred was leading among Bexar County voters with 44%, while Republican Senator Ted Cruz trailed with 29%. Contrasting this with Cruz’s 2018 race against Beto O’Rourke, where O’Rourke received 59% of the Bexar County vote compared to Cruz’s 40%.
Twenty percent of respondents indicated that they were still undecided in the Senate race.
CPOR intends to conduct another poll during early voting in October to survey Bexar County registered voters, with results expected to be published in November.
