American Gymnast Jordan Chiles Fights to Keep Olympic Bronze Medal
American gymnast Jordan Chiles expressed her disappointment and frustration in a recent social media post after an arbitration panel ruled that she must return the bronze medal she earned in the floor exercise at the Paris Olympics. Chiles called the decision “unjust” and a “significant blow.”
The International Olympic Committee, following the ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, has decided to reallocate the bronze medal to Ana Barbosu of Romania.
Initially, it was believed that Chiles had secured the bronze medal after her score was adjusted due to an appeal by Team USA coach Cecile Landi. However, Romania successfully argued to the CAS that the appeal was submitted after the one-minute deadline, resulting in the medal going to Barbosu.
In an emotional Instagram post, Chiles expressed her disappointment with the decision and highlighted the racial attacks she has faced on social media. Despite the setback, Chiles remains proud to represent her culture and country.
USA Gymnastics is supporting Chiles in her quest to keep the bronze medal, disputing Romania’s claim regarding the timing of the appeal. The governing body submitted video evidence showing that the appeal was made well within the deadline.
Chiles remains determined to fight for what she rightfully earned, stating, “I will make every effort to ensure that justice is done.” Despite facing challenges, she is confident that the right decision will prevail in the end.
