Jonathan Majors’ ‘Magazine Dreams’ to hit theaters in early 2025

NEW YORK – The Jonathan Majors -starring bodybuilder drama “Magazine Dreams” has been acquired for theatrical release after it was initially dropped following Majors’ conviction for assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Briarcliff Entertainment has secured the distribution rights to the film, as confirmed by its chief executive, Tom Ortenberg, on Wednesday. Ortenberg mentioned in an email that Briarcliff is gearing up for a “robust” theatrical release in the first quarter of 2025. Deadline was first to report the acquisition.

Before Majors’ conviction, “Magazine Dreams” had garnered critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2023. Searchlight Pictures initially scheduled a release for later in the year, with high hopes that it could potentially earn Majors his first Oscar nomination.

However, all plans changed following a confrontation in March 2023 that resulted in Majors’ arrest. His former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, accused him of assaulting her in a chauffeured car, leading to his conviction on a misdemeanor assault charge and a harassment violation in December.

As a consequence, Majors lost his role as Kang the Conqueror in Marvel Studios productions, which had significant implications for the Marvel cinematic universe. In April of the following year, Majors was ordered to complete a yearlong counseling program but was spared jail time.

In “Magazine Dreams,” directed by Elijah Bynum, Majors portrays a troubled aspiring bodybuilder with a turbulent past. Briarcliff, the distributor of the film, is also behind the controversial upcoming Donald Trump dramatization, “The Apprentice.”
