Jimmy Carter honored with Holbrooke award by Dayton Literary Peace Prize Foundation

NEW YORK – Exciting news is stirring as former President Jimmy Carter approaches his 100th birthday. The Dayton Literary Peace Prize Foundation is granting him a prestigious lifetime achievement award, breaking tradition to honor him in this special way. The Ohio-based foundation announced Carter as the winner of the Ambassador Richard C. Holbrooke Distinguished Achievement Award, a significant recognition for his outstanding contributions to peace and diplomacy. Carter is well-known for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his human rights advocacy and successful negotiations such as the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel.

The honorable award will be accepted by Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, on his behalf during a special ceremony in November. The event will celebrate Jimmy Carter’s dedicated efforts towards peace and his extensive literary work, which includes over 30 books. The foundation recognizes the profound impact of Carter’s writing on promoting peace, social justice, and global understanding. This decision to waive the requirement of a personal appearance by the recipient showcases the Foundation’s deep respect and admiration for the former president’s legacy.

Jason Carter expressed his gratitude for the Foundation’s choice to honor his grandfather, emphasizing Jimmy Carter’s enduring passion for literature and commitment to peaceful conflict resolution. He acknowledged the significance of merging Carter’s love for literature and peace in this esteemed award ceremony.

In addition to honoring Jimmy Carter, the Foundation also recognized outstanding literary works, with Paul Lynch’s “Prophet Song” winning the Dayton Literary Peace Prize for Fiction and Victor Luckerson’s “Built from the Fire” securing the nonfiction award. Both authors will receive a substantial monetary prize in recognition of their achievements in promoting peace through literature.

This year’s awards ceremony promises to be a memorable and inspiring event, celebrating the powerful impact of literature on fostering peace and understanding in our global community.
