Addressing School Shootings: JD Vance Calls for Increased Security Measures

PHOENIX – Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance expressed his concern over the prevalence of school shootings, referring to them as a “fact of life.” Speaking at a rally in Phoenix, Vance emphasized the need for increased security measures to prevent further tragedies like the recent shooting in Georgia that claimed the lives of four individuals.

Vance stated, “If these psychos are going to go after our kids, we’ve got to be prepared for it. We don’t have to like the reality that we live in, but it is the reality we live in. We’ve got to deal with it.”

When questioned about possible solutions to prevent school shootings, Vance dismissed the idea of further restricting access to guns as a viable solution, pointing out that shootings occur in states with both strict and lax gun laws. Instead, he advocated for allocating more resources to schools to enhance security measures.

“I don’t like that this is a fact of life,” Vance acknowledged. “But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets. And we have got to bolster security at our schools.”

While acknowledging the discomfort of sending his own children to schools with hardened security, Vance emphasized the necessity of adapting to the current reality.

He offered his condolences to the families affected by the tragic shooting in Georgia and emphasized the need for prayers and sympathy for the community in Winder.

Earlier this year, Vice President Kamala Harris visited the site of the 2018 Parkland high school massacre and announced initiatives to assist states with laws enabling the temporary confiscation of firearms from individuals deemed dangerous by judges.

Harris, who heads the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, has advocated for a combination of stricter gun control measures, including a ban on certain firearms, and improved school security protocols, such as ensuring classroom doors cannot be locked from the outside.
