Jannik Sinner Dominates to Reach U.S. Open Third Round
NEW YORK – In a commanding performance, Jannik Sinner advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open by defeating Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 on Thursday.
The top-ranked Sinner faced little resistance in his match against the American, securing his 50th victory of the season and his 30th win on hard courts, leading the ATP Tour in this category.
This victory marks the second time Sinner has defeated Michelsen this month, with their previous encounter in Cincinnati. Interestingly, it was revealed that Sinner had tested positive for an anabolic steroid in March.
Italian player Jasmine Paolini had a quick advancement to the next round as Karolina Pliskova suffered an apparent left foot injury after just three points. Paolini, seeded 5th, reached the finals of the French Open and Wimbledon, and this marks her first time advancing to the third round of the U.S. Open.
Unfortunately, it was not a good day for all seeded players as No. 7 seed Hurbert Hurkacz and No. 16 Sebastian Korda were eliminated in straight sets by Jordan Thompson and Tomas Machac, respectively.
