BALTIMORE – Jake Elliott can be glad this was only a preseason game. After some uncharacteristic struggles, including bouncing kicks off both uprights, Elliott was given one more chance by his teammates in a thrilling finale.

Elliott nailed a 49-yard field goal with no time remaining to give the Philadelphia Eagles a 16-13 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Friday night. Despite missing an extra point and hitting the right upright on a pivotal 50-yard attempt earlier in the game, Elliott came through in the clutch when it mattered most.

After Baltimore quarterback Emory Jones was sacked and fumbled on the next play, leading to a recovery by Patrick Johnson, Elliott had his redemption shot.

“That was lucky,” Elliott admitted. “Obviously, not the type of game you want. But sometimes you need a bit of luck in football.”

At nearly the same spot where he had previously missed, Elliott converted this time to secure the win for the Eagles.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni praised Elliott’s resilience, expressing confidence in his abilities despite the earlier struggles. “I have no doubt that he’ll be even better because of some of the adversity he went through today,” Sirianni stated.

The game saw quarterbacks Josh Johnson of the Ravens and Kenny Pickett of the Eagles failing to generate much scoring. The backup duel culminated in a dramatic finish, with Baltimore rookie Devin Leary’s touchdown tying the game at 13 with under six minutes left.

However, after Elliott’s missed field goal, the Ravens turned to Jones, which ultimately backfired. Jones was unable to avoid a crucial sack and fumble, leading to Elliott’s game-winning opportunity.

Despite the preseason nature of the game, the nail-biting finish added significant drama, showcasing the determination and unpredictability that make football so compelling.
