Israel shifts attention to Lebanon and Hezbollah in the north

Israel is entering a new phase of the war as the focus shifts towards the northern front against Hezbollah militants in Lebanon, according to the country’s defense minister.

Recent explosive attacks in Syria and Lebanon have escalated tensions, with at least 12 people killed and nearly 3,000 wounded in an attack targeting Hezbollah pagers on Tuesday. Another incident involving exploding walkie-talkies and electronics in Lebanon killed at least 20 and injured 450 individuals on Wednesday.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized the need for courage, determination, and perseverance as the conflict intensifies. Hezbollah has vowed to retaliate with “special punishment” following the attack on their pagers.

The ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah have raised concerns about a potential full-blown war, leading to mass evacuations on both sides of the border.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, the death toll continues to rise, with over 41,000 Palestinians killed since the outbreak of fighting on October 7. The exact breakdown of casualties between fighters and civilians remains unclear.

Amidst the conflict, Japanese electronics company Icom has denied involvement in the recent explosive attacks against Hezbollah, stating that the walkie-talkie linked to the incidents was discontinued a decade ago.

Company executive Yoshiki Enomoto expressed surprise at the reports and emphasized the need to verify the authenticity of the device in question.

Icom clarified that the production and distribution of the wireless radio unit allegedly used in the attacks had ceased several years ago, highlighting their commitment to strict export control regulations.

As tensions escalate in the region, the situation remains volatile, with all parties involved bracing for potential further escalation.
