The Aftermath of a Devastating Bus Crash: NTSB Investigation Underway
BOVINA, Miss. – A tragic commercial bus crash in Mississippi has left seven people dead and dozens injured, prompting an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The incident occurred when a 2018 Volvo bus experienced a left front tire failure while traveling westbound on Interstate 20 near Bovina. The bus veered off the road onto an embankment and overturned onto its left side, leading to the fatal crash, as detailed by NTSB member Todd Inman at a press conference.
Among the casualties were a 6-year-old boy and his 16-year-old sister, identified by their mother, along with others who are yet to be named. The bus was en route from Atlanta to Dallas with 41 passengers and two drivers, with no additional vehicles involved in the accident.
NTSB investigators will be examining various factors, including the bus’ maintenance, road conditions, driver experience, carrier’s safety record, and safety measures for passengers. Anyone with information related to the crash is urged to contact Mississippi authorities.
The bus was operated by Autobuses Regiomontanos, a company specializing in cross-border trips between Mexico and the U.S. With 20 years of experience, the company emphasizes a modern fleet of buses and daily maintenance for passenger safety.
