Injured rider without helmet on stolen ATV hospitalized in critical condition

SAN ANTONIO – Excitement turned to tragedy in the streets of San Antonio as a person riding a stolen ATV crashed into a vehicle, resulting in critical injuries and a whirlwind of police activity.

The incident took place under the cover of darkness, around 10:15 p.m. on a Friday night at the intersection of East Commerce Street and Mittiman Street. According to San Antonio Police, the ATV in question was not equipped with lights and was definitely not street-legal.

The ATV was reported to be traveling southbound on Mittiman Street when the rider failed to stop at a sign and collided with a Honda Accord heading west on Commerce Street. The impact was severe, and the rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Fortunately, no other injuries were reported from the crash scene. As authorities piece together the events leading up to the accident, the possibility of the ATV rider facing charges for the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle looms large. The investigation is still ongoing, with SAPD working diligently to gather all the necessary details.
