Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently addressed a cultural celebration on Long Island during his U.S. visit. The event, held at Nassau Veterans Coliseum, saw an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 13,000 people. Modi highlighted the United States’ return of almost 300 antiquities to India and shared the news of India’s dual victory at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary.
During his speech, Modi excitedly announced, “In the Chess Olympiad, India has secured gold medals in both the men’s and women’s tournaments,” eliciting applause from the attendees. The Prime Minister’s speech, which was translated into English for an online audience, resonated with the importance of India’s achievements on a global stage.
Modi, who was reelected in June following a historic election process, stressed the significance of the year 2024 for the world. He highlighted the contrasts between global conflicts and the celebrations of democracy in several nations, including India and the United States.
The Prime Minister’s trip to New York followed his participation in a summit hosted by President Joe Biden in Delaware, alongside leaders of Australia and Japan. Additionally, Modi accepted the return of 297 antiquities stolen from India, reinforcing the cultural ties between the two nations.
Looking ahead, Modi is set to attend a United Nations summit before the General Assembly this week. The cultural celebration on Long Island, sponsored by the Indo American Community of USA, underscored the growing bond between India and the United States.
