SAN ANTONIO – Get ready to see Houston Street in a whole new light as it transforms into vibrant green spaces next month to celebrate International Park(ing) Day. San Antonians and visitors alike will have the opportunity to enjoy these temporary green oases.
The exciting event on Sept. 20 is a joint effort by Centro San Antonio and the 80|20 Foundation to activate the Houston Street Corridor and bring the community together.
Originating in San Francisco in 2005, Park(ing) Day has now spread to 162 cities and 35 countries worldwide, showcasing the power of urban creativity and community engagement.
Individuals, groups, businesses, and organizations are invited to sponsor a parking spot or streetscape, turning it into a mini park or experience. This is your chance to unleash your creativity and make a positive impact on the urban landscape.
If you’re interested in sponsoring a space, fill out an online form with your concept by Sept. 6. Click here to access the website and submit your idea.
These green spaces will provide a place for relaxation, creativity, and fun, inviting everyone to come together and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.
This year’s theme for Park(ing) Day is “Parking Reform Activism,” emphasizing the importance of reclaiming urban spaces for the community’s benefit.
Don’t miss out on this exciting event happening all day long on Houston Street on Sept. 20. Join in the fun and be a part of the movement to transform urban spaces into vibrant community hubs.
