Welcome to the Hondo High School Football Season!
HONDO, Texas – Last season, the Hondo High School football team had an impressive 9-1 record, with their only loss coming to the eventual District 14-3A-DI champions, Jourdanton.
Hondo continued their success in the postseason by defeating Cole before falling to Goliad in the second round.
Head coach Dustin Templin is eager for the upcoming season, stating, “I think we have every chance to be better than we were last year, we just have to go out and execute.”
According to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine, the Owls are projected to finish second in the district once again.
However, the team will need to overcome the loss of key players from last year’s senior class and face tougher opponents in the non-district schedule.
Senior quarterback DJ Richter acknowledges the need for younger players to step up, saying, “We have a lot of young talent that – if we get those talents up – we can be really good this year.”
The new class of seniors is motivated to uphold the program’s winning tradition. Senior running back Jerry Guevara expressed high expectations for the season, aiming for a district championship.
The Owls will kick off their season at home against Blanco on August 30 at 7 p.m., ready to showcase their winning mentality.
