Harris tours Helene damage in Georgia, North Carolina as storm alters campaign schedule

Vice President Kamala Harris to Tour Hurricane Helene Damage in Georgia and North Carolina

Vice President Kamala Harris will be touring the damage caused by Hurricane Helene in Georgia and North Carolina, as the deadly storm continues to impact the political calendar with just over a month left until Election Day.

Harris, the Democratic nominee, is scheduled to visit Georgia on Wednesday and will be surveying the devastation in North Carolina in the upcoming days. Her team has been working to coordinate these visits to ensure they do not interfere with local disaster response efforts.

Originally planned to join Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on a bus tour across Pennsylvania on Wednesday, Harris will now be visiting these storm-affected areas instead. Governor Walz will be joined by Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman for the campaign tour.

Following her visits to Georgia and North Carolina, Harris is set to continue with her scheduled campaign visits to Wisconsin and Michigan later in the week, with the North Carolina trip expected to take place shortly after that.

President Joe Biden will also be visiting North Carolina on Wednesday to assess the damage in the Asheville area by helicopter, in order to avoid disrupting local resources.

Meanwhile, Republican nominee Donald Trump made a visit to Georgia on Monday, during which he made controversial statements about the federal response to the storm, despite claiming not to politicize the disaster.

Overall, both political parties are actively engaging with areas affected by Hurricane Helene, aiming to demonstrate their commitment to serving and supporting the communities in need during these challenging times.
