Kamala Harris Raises $27 Million at New York City Fundraiser
Vice President Kamala Harris raised a whopping $27 million at a packed New York City fundraiser on Sunday, marking her largest fundraising haul since taking over the top of the ticket from President Joe Biden, according to a Harris campaign aide.
Despite having more money than former President Donald Trump, Harris acknowledges that the funds will be crucial to compete with the expensive advertising campaigns by well-funded outside groups supporting Trump.
The event took place at Cipriani Wall Street in a grand Greek Revival ballroom with over a dozen columns. Harris took the opportunity to criticize Trump for refusing to debate her again, stating, “My opponent seems to be looking for an excuse. I feel very strongly that we owe it to the American people to meet once more before Election Day.”
After the fundraiser, Harris told reporters that there is more to discuss, emphasizing the importance of engaging with voters and addressing their concerns.
In addition to fundraising, Harris plans to deliver a speech outlining her economic vision, focusing on investing in the aspirations and ambitions of the American people while tackling the challenges they face, such as the high cost of homeownership and rising grocery bills.
By elaborating on her economic agenda, Harris hopes to distinguish herself from the president’s economic track record and address the concerns of voters who have seen prices soar during Biden’s presidency. She aims to push for middle-class tax cuts, tax hikes on the wealthy, and corporations, as well as other policies to benefit low- and middle-income taxpayers.
A recent poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research suggests that Harris is gaining ground on economic issues, a domain that was once a strong suit for Trump. About 4 in 10 registered voters believe that Trump would do a better job handling the economy, while a similar number favor Harris.
As the economy remains a key issue for voters, Harris continues to refine her policy proposals and engage with the public to build support for her vision.
Harris has evolved her positions since her 2020 presidential campaign, moving away from some of the more progressive stances she previously held, including banning fracking, implementing a single-payer healthcare system, and decriminalizing illegal border crossings.
Overall, Harris is actively shaping her platform and engaging with voters to address their concerns and build momentum for the upcoming election.
