SAN ANTONIO – The Makerspace in Harlandale ISD has quickly become a hub for over 2,000 students in just over a year since its opening. Faculty members are excited about the potential this space holds for the students.
“Possibilities are within their grasp. This isn’t something that only happens on a different side of town. They can have exposure and experiences right here at home,” said Meghan Guerrero, Gifted and Talented CTE STEM coordinator for the district. “I want them to think, ‘This is the coolest place I’ve ever been!’”
The Makerspace, once a school building, now houses a variety of technology equipment such as 3D printers, drones, VR gear, and more, providing students with unique opportunities.
Faculty members aim to help students explore their interests by offering them access to cutting-edge tools and resources.
Every computer in the Makerspace was built by students, encouraging them to engage with technology and hands-on learning.
The site will also host GMSA@9’s Live Bexarfest show, connecting students with local nonprofits to support. Exciting opportunities lie ahead for these young makers.
