The Hockey Community Mourns the Loss of John and Matthew Gaudreau
MEDIA, Pa. – The hockey world is coming together to honor the memory of John and Matthew Gaudreau, the beloved siblings who tragically lost their lives in a fatal accident caused by a suspected drunken driver. The Columbus Blue Jackets and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman will be in attendance at the funeral service.
The memorial for the Gaudreau brothers will take place at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Media, Pennsylvania. John, a standout player for the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets, known as “Johnny Hockey,” and Matthew, who played collegiate hockey at Boston College, tragically passed away on the eve of their sister’s wedding.
The hockey community from Columbus to South Jersey to Boston College will come together to pay their respects to the Gaudreau family. John was 31 years old, and Matthew was 29.
Both brothers were widely admired for not only their hockey skills but also for their infectious personalities. Fans and players from various teams have shown their support, with donations pouring in to aid Matthew’s widow, Madeline, who is expecting a baby in December.
The tragic incident that took the lives of the Gaudreau brothers has sent shockwaves through the sports world. The driver responsible is facing charges related to the accident, and the brothers’ legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
