SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of a destructive fire that occurred on the Northwest Side on Saturday night.
When the Firefighters were dispatched to the Tarry Towne Apartments around 9 p.m. in the 300 block of Vance Jackson Road, they were met with a blaze emanating from the roof of the building.
An SAFD Battalion Chief informed KSAT that the fire had quickly spread into the attic, prompting the rescue team to urge residents to evacuate the affected units.
Apartment resident Olivia Schupp was startled by the commotion when firefighters knocked on her door to warn her about the neighboring building’s fire.
Describing her experience, Schupp shared, “Somebody told me to get out. There was a fire. I couldn’t see anything because of the smoke.”
Having called the complex home for eight years, Schupp commented on the intensity of the situation, “My eyes were really hurting. My eyes are really sensitive.”
The battalion chief reported that a total of 12 units were affected by the fire, and while firefighters successfully rescued a cat, no injuries were reported.
In response to the incident, a representative from Opportunity Home San Antonio arrived on-site to assist residents in securing temporary accommodation.
