SAN ANTONIO – The courtroom drama unfolded in Bexar County on Wednesday as the biological father of a 5-year-old boy could not contain his emotions during the sentencing hearing for Daniel Garcia.
Garcia, who was found guilty in May of injury to a child, leading to the death of 5-year-old Domenic Aguilar-Acevedo, faced the consequences in the 226th District Court.
The tension reached its peak when the boy’s father, David Engwiller, could no longer hold back his feelings towards Garcia and lashed out at him in a sudden outburst.
Court bailiffs had to intervene and escort Engwiller out of the courtroom as emotions ran high.
Garcia now awaits his fate, with a possible sentence ranging from five to 99 years or even life imprisonment, to be determined by Judge Velia Meza.
Domenic’s tragic fate unfolded in a San Antonio hotel in 2021, and his body was later discovered in a ravine in Colorado after being abandoned by Garcia and the boy’s mother, Nickolle Aguilar.
Aguilar, who last week received a 15-year prison sentence for her involvement in the crime, struck a plea deal to testify against Garcia during his trial.
Her chilling testimony during Garcia’s hearing, being streamed live by KSAT, shed light on the tragic events leading to Domenic’s untimely demise.
