SAN ANTONIO – Witnessing the tragedy unfold is heartbreaking, but the families of the 19 children and two teachers who lost their lives at Robb Elementary want the public to see the heroic response that followed.
Among the multitude of documents released by the City of Uvalde is a clip from Uvalde Police Sgt. Daniel Coronado’s body camera, offering a glimpse into the harrowing moments when officers entered the classrooms over an hour after the gunman entered the school.
Jesse Rizo, who lost his 9-year-old niece in the shooting, watched the footage and remarked about the bravery of law enforcement in the face of danger.
He spent hours reviewing the released records, including body camera footage, dash camera footage, emails, texts, and 911 calls, and expressed his astonishment at the sheer volume of information revealed.
Referring to the public release of the records, another guardian, Brett Cross, questioned why there is only body camera footage from five Uvalde police officers when 25 responded to the scene that day.
Every detail uncovered sheds light on aspects of the tragedy that were previously unknown, prompting Cross to emphasize the need for transparency and accountability.
Despite the distressing nature of the information, these families hope that sharing their story will bring about a change in perspective and garner more support for their cause.
They want the public to understand the magnitude of the nightmare they are living through and the harsh reality of their loss.
