Ex-Medina Co. commissioner gets probation for scrap metal case

HONDO, Texas – A former Medina County commissioner recently faced legal consequences for his involvement in a case where he sold county property for personal gain.

Former Precinct 1 Commissioner Timothy Scott Neuman was found guilty of selling county scrap metal and pocketing the profits. Additionally, he faced accusations of tampering with evidence during the investigation.

Following his arrest in July, Neuman resigned from his position and later pleaded no contest to charges of misapplication of fiduciary duty and tampering/fabricating physical evidence. He has since repaid the county in full for the sum of $3,281.

During his sentencing, a district judge sentenced Neuman to five years in prison, which was probated for six years, for the tampering charge. He also received five years deferred adjudication for the misapplication charge, to be served concurrently.

As part of his sentence, Neuman must write an apology letter to Medina County, complete an anti-theft class, and perform 100 hours of community service.
