SAN ANTONIO – Exciting developments are in progress as KSAT closely monitors the proposed new San Antonio Missions baseball stadium in the heart of the city.
Recently, the city council conducted a public hearing to gather feedback from citizens regarding the $160 million project.
During this period of anticipation, KSAT had the opportunity to speak with former Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, who holds a significant place in Missions’ history as the namesake of their current home stadium.
Reflecting on nostalgic moments, Wolff shared his support for a new stadium in downtown San Antonio, recognizing the potential for growth and revitalization in the area.
Wolff reminisced, “Thirty years ago, when we built the stadium when I was mayor, downtown, there was really nothing going on. Today, with all the investments you see in the county and that have been made in the private sector, it’s booming.”
Expressing optimism for the future, he added, “The unique way of building this, I think it’s terrific because they have to build some of the other projects first. Whether it’s a hotel or apartments or whatever to show that they can generate additional revenue to help pay for the stadium, so this time, we know we will get economic development because it will have started first, even before the stadium, but they know the stadium’s coming.”
Wolff’s enthusiasm was evident as he voiced his support for the Missions stadium’s downtown location, emphasizing his belief in the project’s potential success. “I think it’s an exciting venture. I hope it works,” he concluded.
