The picturesque port city of Rotterdam was rocked by a tragic stabbing incident that left one man dead and another seriously injured. Dutch police are currently investigating the attack and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The suspect, a 22-year-old man from Amersfoort, was apprehended after being overpowered by members of the public and police. While the motive for the attack remains unclear, witnesses reported the attacker shouting “Allahu akbar” during the incident.
The victims of the stabbing were identified as a 32-year-old man from Rotterdam who tragically lost his life, and a 33-year-old man from Switzerland who sustained serious injuries. The suspect allegedly used two large knives in the attack near the iconic Erasmus Bridge.
One brave witness, sports instructor Reniël Renato David Litecia, intervened by striking the attacker with sticks and disarming him. He described the harrowing situation as he witnessed the brutal attack unfold.
Authorities are still trying to piece together the events leading up to the stabbing and determine the motive behind the heinous crime. Police spokesperson Kristel Arntz emphasized that it is too early in the investigation to speculate on the motive.
As the investigation unfolds, the community in Rotterdam is left in shock and mourning. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
