SAN ANTONIO – A downtown San Antonio bar recently announced plans to undergo renovations, following a tragic incident that occurred almost two months ago.
Adrian Martinez, the owner of Smoke Skybar, located in the 500 block of East Crockett Street, confirmed that the bar will be renovated post this weekend. This decision was made after a 28-year-old woman, Ayden Burt, was tragically shot and killed in the bar’s patio area.
The fatal incident occurred on July 22nd when a stray bullet struck Burt while she was seated on the upper level of the bar. She had her back to Interstate 37, where the gunshot was believed to have come from.
San Antonio police reported that Burt was shot in the back and succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital. Burt, a beloved English teacher and cheer sponsor, was in San Antonio for the Texas High School Coaches Association Coaching School and Conference.
Martinez assured that they have been in close contact with city officials to guarantee the safety of their patrons and the downtown community going forward.
To enhance security measures, Smoke Skybar has decided to downsize and discontinue hosting concerts. Moreover, they have collaborated with architects to redesign the building to create a more secure and cohesive customer experience.
The bar expressed that their new security team will prioritize customer safety and satisfaction above all else. They remain committed to being a staple of downtown San Antonio for years to come, appreciating the continued support from the community.
