KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Bears cornerback Douglas Coleman III suffered a scary moment during the preseason game against the Chiefs. Coleman was immobilized on a stretcher and taken from Arrowhead Stadium in an ambulance after a tackle on the first play of the second half.
The incident occurred when Coleman came in to tackle Cornell Powell, and his neck bent awkwardly on impact, causing him to go down motionless. The medical team quickly assessed the situation and tended to Coleman on the field.
Bears coach Matt Eberflus provided an update on Coleman’s condition, stating that he was moving his extremities and gave a thumbs-up while being attended to by medical staff. Coleman was then taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
Despite the unfortunate incident, the Bears managed to secure a victory in their preseason finale, winning 34-21.
Coleman, a former Texas Tech player, had a successful college career and went on to play in the CFL before joining the Broncos as a free agent. His versatility as a safety and linebacker made him a valuable asset to the Ottawa Redblacks, where he showcased his talent in multiple positions.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Douglas Coleman III for a speedy recovery.
