Homeland Security Arrests Two Suspects tied to Venezuelan Gang in San Antonio
San Antonio – The Department of Homeland Security announced on Friday that they have arrested two individuals in connection with a Venezuelan transnational gang.
The suspects, who are Venezuelan nationals, were apprehended on September 19 in San Antonio as part of an enforcement operation targeting the Tren de Aragua gang, which originates from Venezuela.
Although the department has not revealed the identities of the arrested individuals, agents stated that they were allegedly involved in the gang’s illegal firearms transportation operation. The arrests were made with the assistance of the San Antonio Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Following their detainment, the individuals were transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for potential immigration violations.
The Tren de Aragua gang, which began in a prison in the Venezuelan state of Aragua, has since expanded its operations to Central America and the United States, according to reports from the Texas Tribune.
Just three days before the arrests in San Antonio, Governor Greg Abbott designated the Tren de Aragua gang as a foreign terrorist organization and directed the DPS to focus resources on combatting the group.
Homeland Security officials have confirmed that their investigation is ongoing as they continue to work on dismantling the gang’s operations.
