CHICAGO – Vice President Kamala Harris will make history as she closes out the Democratic National Convention Thursday night by accepting her party’s presidential nomination. This is one of her last chances to connect with a large audience and persuade them with her powerful message.
Harris is set to share her vision for the country and present her case against Republican Donald Trump. After taking over the lead from President Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket, she is ready to paint a picture of hope and optimism while contrasting it with the perceived “dark” agenda of the current administration.
Throughout her speech, Harris plans to highlight her humble beginnings from a middle-class family to her career as a prosecutor, showcasing her commitment to protecting others. She aims to evoke a sense of patriotism and pride while presenting a more inclusive and positive vision for the future.
The convention will also feature other prominent speakers before Harris takes the stage, including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, civil rights leader Al Sharpton, and singer Pink among others. Harris is expected to make history as the first Black woman and the first person of South Asian descent to secure a major party’s presidential nomination.
Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, also gave a heartfelt speech at the convention, introducing himself to a wider audience and showcasing his personal background in an effort to appeal to voters. Walz, a cultural representative of the Midwest, aims to balance Harris’ coastal roots and broaden the appeal of the Democratic ticket.
The emotional moment was captured as Walz’s son, Gus, openly wept during his father’s speech, showing pride and admiration for his dad as he delivered an inspiring message to the audience.
Stay tuned for Harris’ historic speech as she accepts her party’s nomination and delivers a message of hope, unity, and progress for the nation.
