Case Dismissed: Bexar County DA Drops Trafficking Charges After Allegations of Untruthfulness
Jarvis Anderson, accused of trafficking and promoting prostitution, saw his case dismissed by the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office following allegations of mishandling by prosecutors. The dismissal paperwork obtained by KSAT Investigates revealed the inability to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Anderson’s attorney, Carolyn Wentland, raised concerns during a heated court hearing earlier this year, claiming that prosecutors failed to disclose evidence and were dishonest about dismissing a DWI charge against a victim in a related case. The DA’s office ultimately decided to drop the charges against Anderson.
San Antonio Police officers had previously linked Anderson and his brother, Lawrence Jackson, to a human trafficking operation involving teenage girls. While Jackson received a 10-year prison sentence for his role in the trafficking, Anderson vigorously contested the charges with Wentland questioning the integrity of the investigation.
Trafficking Victim’s Troubled Past Unveiled
The legal saga brought to light disturbing details about one of the trafficking victims, whose involvement in a DUI crash and subsequent run-ins with the law raised further questions about her credibility. Despite multiple violations and a warrant for her arrest, prosecutors unexpectedly dropped her DWI case for further investigation.
Wentland’s relentless pursuit of the truth exposed discrepancies between the DA’s actions and their official statements, leading to the dismissal of Anderson’s case. The revelations cast doubt on the integrity of the initial investigation and highlighted flaws in the prosecution’s handling of the matter.
