SAN ANTONIO – Urgent Call for Type-O Blood Donations in San Antonio!
Type-O blood levels are critically low in San Antonio, and the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center is pleading for the community’s help to replenish the supply.
STBT officials have announced the immediate need for over 100 units of Type-O blood, stressing the importance of donations from individuals with this blood type.
Type O-Negative is a universal blood type that can be transfused to patients of any blood type in emergencies, while Type O-positive is the most prevalent blood type in South Texas. Due to the high demand for these blood types in local hospitals, supplies are quickly depleting, according to a recent STBT news release.
STBT Chief Operating Officer, Adrienne Mendoza, emphasized the critical nature of blood donations, stating, “Every blood transfusion that is given to a patient in need comes from a volunteer donor, and we are relying on our community to step up and donate.”
Mendoza further highlighted the impact of blood shortages on medical care, explaining that surgeries may be postponed, and cancer patients may face delays in their treatments without an adequate blood supply.
Donating blood is a simple process that takes approximately an hour, from check-in to enjoying some post-donation cookies.
To schedule a blood donation appointment, individuals can call 210-731-5590 or visit the online scheduling portal.
Let’s come together as a community to save lives through blood donation!
