SAN ANTONIO – Exciting news for history buffs and Alamo enthusiasts as construction began on Tuesday for the brand-new Alamo Visitor Center and Museum in downtown San Antonio. This state-of-the-art museum is a pivotal component of the $550 million Alamo Plan and is slated for completion in 2027.
The Alamo Visitor Center and Museum will be housed in the historic Crockett and Woolworth buildings, offering visitors a comprehensive look at the Alamo’s rich 300-year history. A significant ceremony was held on Tuesday in front of the iconic Alamo Church, signaling the start of the next chapter in the Alamo’s legacy.
San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “People all over the world recognize the Alamo. (It) teaches people about our community’s history when they come.” The museum will span over 100,000 square feet and feature eight galleries that chronicle the Alamo’s journey from a Spanish mission to the Texas Revolution.
In addition to the fascinating historical exhibits, the museum will house a cutting-edge 4D theatre, a rooftop event space, a café, and a gift shop, ensuring visitors have a memorable experience. According to estimates by Gallagher and Associates, the museum is projected to generate $12 billion in economic benefits, create 8,100 jobs, and contribute over $600 million in tax revenues for Texas.
