China Voices Strong Opposition to U.S. Sanctions in Response to Alleged Ties to Russia’s War Efforts
BEIJING – China has strongly condemned the latest U.S. sanctions imposed on Chinese companies allegedly linked to Russia’s war in Ukraine. The Chinese government has vowed to take necessary measures to protect the interests of its businesses.
The U.S. recently announced extensive sanctions on numerous firms in Russia and various other regions, accusing them of aiding Russia’s war efforts and facilitating the evasion of sanctions. The Chinese companies have been restricted from trading with U.S. firms without a special license, which is almost impossible to obtain.
In response to the U.S. actions, the Ministry of Commerce in China labeled the sanctions as unilateral and disruptive to global trade. China urges the U.S. to cease its wrongful practices and promises to defend the legitimate rights of Chinese companies.
This move by the U.S. is part of a series of sanctions imposed on Russian firms and their affiliates following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. China, although claiming neutrality in the conflict, has strengthened its ties with Russia through increased oil purchases.
Despite Western sanctions on Russian oil, China continues to support Russia economically. The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping underscores the growing partnership between the two countries.
