Chiefs Running Back Isiah Pacheco Likely Headed to Injured Reserve After Ankle Injury
Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco is facing a likely stint on injured reserve after injuring his right ankle in the final minutes of Sunday’s thrilling win over the Cincinnati Bengals. According to a source familiar with the injury who spoke to The Associated Press, Pacheco underwent X-rays on Sunday night and was scheduled for an MRI exam to further evaluate the extent of the damage.
Head coach Andy Reid is expected to provide updates to the Kansas City media later today regarding Pacheco’s status. The running back was seen leaving Arrowhead Stadium in a walking boot and on crutches after the game, following the injury on the first play of the final possession against the Bengals.
The Chiefs, who are already dealing with injuries at the running back position, with Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the non-football illness list, are now facing further challenges. Undrafted rookie Carson Steele and recent signee Samaje Perine are the only active running backs on the roster, with additional options available on the practice squad.
Pacheco, a key contributor to the Chiefs’ back-to-back Super Bowl championship teams, had a strong start to the season with a touchdown in the opening game against Baltimore and a solid performance against the Bengals before the injury.
